If I had to give Nu Visual Media a human voice, I strongly believe it would sound like Denzel Washington, with him having once said “…It’s not about what you have, or even what you’ve accomplished. It’s about who you’ve lifted up, who you’ve made better. It’s about what you’ve given back”.

Over the past 12 months we were thrown into the deep end having to learn how to swim in turbulent waters. As a team we pulled together, built a raft and drifted to shore. Essentially 2022 was tough. It had a mind of its own, and we couldn’t change that, we just had to learn different techniques and pivot around the obstacles… together.

The first 5 months were slow, but we kept the team together, and took that time to focus on improving our operational efficiencies, simplify our service offerings, and ensuring that the launch of our equipment rentals company, Nu Visual Rentals would be a game changer.

During this time, we still made good on our promise of playing our small part in helping persons to realise their goals through our Dreams to Realities initiative. Despite a strong finish in the latter half of the year, this initiative is still our most fulfilling achievement of 2022.

Through this, we sponsored five persons ages 15-20 to an 8-week Entrepreneurship Course, even visiting some of their homes and getting to know their families. We then had the privilege of giving 10 audio-visual students the opportunity to do a post-production workshop on the most important segment of any production process, video/audio editing.

We were blessed enough to also give of our time with what we cheekily called our Nation School Tour, where we went to schools across the country to help these students recognise that video capabilities is an asset that can be leveraged in any career they choose as they already have the tool they need to succeed with this leverage… a mobile phone with an HD camera.

Our Bajanspirations Series was also started in 2022. This is a currently self-funded project, where we will produce biographical full length documentaries on the lives of amazing Barbadians. Generations to come will have International level inspiration, found right at home. With this, we started filming Alan Emtage, the Barbadian who created the world’s first search engine, well before the world knew what “a Google” was. And also Earl Maynard, who has won two of the world’s most prestigious bodybuilding competitions, putting him in an exclusive club shared with only three other persons, including the great Arnold Schwarzenegger.

And last but not least, we launched our In The Spotlight and our ProCourse series with the help of the tutors that came onboard to support this vision of sharing our knowledge to empower those the upcoming stars of video/audio production in Barbados, at no cost to them.

I think Nu Visual Media in the voice of Denzel Washington would say “Let’s do it again in 2023”, and the teams response would be a synchronised “Heck Yea…Let’s go!”
